About Our Internship Program
The Newport News Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office offers internship opportunities for students interested in public service, criminal justice, law, victim advocacy, legal support, and information technology.
Interns gain exposure to the work of a public legal office while developing professional skills in a structured and respectful environment. Internship availability may vary by department, semester, and office needs.
Choose Your Internship Track
Each internship track offers a different learning experience. Review the options below and select the area that best matches your interests, background, and career goals.
Law Internship
For students interested in prosecution, courtroom procedure, legal research, case preparation, and the role of attorneys in the criminal justice system.
Administrative / Legal Support Internship
For students interested in legal support operations, case flow, records, court calendars, document handling, and professional office support.
Victim/Witness Internship
For students interested in victim advocacy, court support, community resources, trauma-informed service, and assisting individuals through the justice process.
General Requirements
- Must be a student or recent graduate.
- Must complete any required background screening.
- Must maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Must follow office policies and instructions.
