About Shannon M. Jones
Shannon Jones represents a new generation of leadership grounded in experience, community engagement, and a vision for modern justice. A graduate of Old Dominion University and Howard University School of Law, Shannon was shaped by Howard University’s civil rights legacy and dedicated her career to advancing fairness and accountability. She has served as a prosecutor in both Philadelphia and Newport News and currently works as an Assistant City Attorney representing departments such as Police and Fire, reinforcing her deep understanding of public safety.
Across her career, Shannon has contributed to nearly every division of the Newport News Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, giving her firsthand insight into the needs of both the justice system and the community it serves. Her professional service extends beyond the courtroom. She founded the STARS Mock Trial Program for youth, sits on the Newport News Bar Association Board, served as President of the Greater Peninsula Women’s Bar Association, and acts as Criminal Justice Chair for the Newport News NAACP. She is also an active member of Ivy Baptist Church.
As Commonwealth’s Attorney, Shannon prioritizes preventing crime before it occurs, elevating youth focused initiatives, and strengthening partnerships between law enforcement and the community. Her leadership reflects a commitment to justice that is proactive, collaborative, and deeply rooted in service to the people of Newport News
