Kahliq Jamal Taylor Sentenced to 40 years for Armed Robbery

A Newport News teenager was sentenced to 40 years in prison Wednesday, February 28, 2018, for multiple counts of armed robbery and other thefts committed in a weeklong crime spree in September, 2015.
Kahliq Jamal Taylor was convicted of four counts of robbery, using a firearm in each robbery, four counts of conspiracy to commit robbery, grand larceny, and carjacking committed from September 12 to 17, 2015, stealing two cars and various personal property from victims across Newport News.

On September 18, 2015, the defendant showed up at an alternate high school where a security guard smelled marijuana on the defendant and contacted police officer who recognized him as a person who was wanted for various robberies. Taylor had driven to school in one of the stolen vehicles. Officers who searched Taylor found a cell phone on him and another was found the car. Both phones, which had been stolen, contained videos and photos of the defendant and social media accounts he used.

Some of the victims also identified him as the person who robbed them at gunpoint and Taylor told investigators that he had committed at least one of the robberies.
