A 21-year-old Newport News man was found guilty on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, of robbing and carjacking a helpful stranger and fleeing to Richmond.

The victim, a 33 year old man, was outside his home on March 19, 2014, when Turner approached him and offered him some money in return for a ride to a nearby movie theater. The victim agreed and retrieved his vehicle keys from inside. When the victim came back out of his home, Turner pulled a gun on him.

Turner took the keys and other personal items from the victim and fled in the victim’s vehicle. Turner was arrested within hours in Richmond with the stolen vehicle and the victim’s belongings.

Judge Louis Lerner found Turner guilty of robbery, carjacking, and two counts of using a firearm to commit a felony. He will be formally sentenced on Jan. 4, 2016, and faces up to two life sentences.
